MEET the GMIS Indiana board

Nathan Jones, President

Nathan Jones is the Deputy IT Director for Noble County. He has been working within Noble County's IT department since 2016. Before coming to Noble County, Nathan worked for the City of Angola, Hamilton Community Schools, and Kruse Worldwide shipping for a combined 9 years. Each stop has allowed a different view into not only Technology but how different workflows can affect Technology use in the work place. The experience from Private, Public and Government sectors has really diversified the way Nathan sees how Technology can better the experience for both employees and the public in Noble County. Nathan also currently serves as the Vice President of the Indiana GMIS Chapter.

In his spare time, Nathan enjoys the outdoors, fishing, hunting, coaching baseball, traveling with family, being on a lake, and being a Girl Dad. Nathan has been happily married to Meagan since 2015 and they have 2 daughters - Logan (2) and Charlie (4).

Laura Minett, Vice President

Laura Minett is the Information Technology Director for Brown County. She has worked in local government since 2013, taking on the role of Director in 2022. One of Laura's priorities, in a county with limited financial resources, is to ascertain how to efficiently leverage all available resources to ensure security and productivity in the most cost effective manner possible.

Laura and her husband have 2 children who are involved in seemingly every activity. Although her kids keep her busy, in her spare time - she likes to run, read, and travel.

Gary Bierman, Treasurer

I'm Gary Bierman, a jack-of-all-trades, mast of some (okay, maybe a couple). By day, I'm taming servers and troubleshooting tech like a digital Dr. Dolittle, and by night, I'm usually trying to convince myself that a second dessert counts as self-care.

I'm a proud husband and dad, which means I've mastered the art of dad jokes, impromptu toy repair, and pretending to know how to help with math homework. My wife keeps me grounded, while my kids keep me on my toes - and occasionally stepping on Legos.

To stay sane, I enjoy running or biking (mostly so I can justify my love of carbs). When I'm not on the move, you'll find me sweating it out in my dry sauna, which is basically my version of a tropical vacation - minus the cocktails and palm trees.

I also dabble in IT projects and court reform, which sounds way cooler if you imagine me in a superhero cape.

Life's too short for boring bios, so here's the gist: I'm a hardworking, goal-oriented guy who loves to laugh, fix things and occasionally drop the ball trying to fix things. By hey - nobody's perfect, right?

Chris Benavidez, Secretary

Chris Benavidez is the Director of Technology for the City of West Lafayette. He has a 20yr IT career spanning. Private, Public, and Government sectors. He started as a help desk analyst and has since built and/or managed teams in customer facing phone and desktop support, network infrastructure, and security.

Small IT Business owner, RVer, and security enthusiast. Former movie theater owner who uses movie references way too often and has promised to work on that.

Kent Kroft, Past President

A Purdue grad with a BS in Agricultural Education, Kent got his start in technology writing FORTRAN code on a Unisys mainframe for United Airlines in 1998. Following 9/11, Kent was a Programmer/Analyst and then Systems Administrator for Tippecanoe County Government. In 2018, he became Chief Information Officer and successfully kept the county running through COVID. He is currently a contributing member of Indiana Executive Council on Cybersecurity, President of GMIS Indiana, and a voting member of the Indiana SLCGP committee.
